Recently, during my commute, I listened to CJ Mahaney’s sermon "Don’t Waste Your Humor". I appreciated the Biblical treatment of the topic and benefited from the correction it offered to this area of my life, in particular, as well as the hope and encouragement it brought to enjoying God’s gift of humor and utilizing it for His glory and the benefit of others.

I was especially grateful for the reminder of the Gospel at the end of the sermon where CJ highlights a laughter that "transcends humor" and uniquely fills the mouths of those who have been redeemed by God, as we see in Psalm 126:1-3:

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.

Back in 2006, the pastoral team went to an exhibit called In the Beginning: Bibles Before Year 1000, and I had an opportunity to see this ancient manuscript. It was an unusually edifying experience. To know that people from centuries ago were reading the same words that we have in our Bibles today was so faith-building. God has faithfully preserved His Word, and for that we should be eternally grateful.
