Gospel quotes, part 2.

June 22, 2005 6:38 am

A continuation of an earlier post… some of my favorite quotes about the gospel:

I read these verses yesterday, but couldn’t help going back to them today:

“But he was wounded for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 53:5-6

“Before we can being to see the cross as something done for us, we have to see it as something done by us.” John Stott.

“Abide hard by the cross and search the mystery of his wounds.” Charles Spurgeon.

“Oh help me understand it,
help me to take it in–
What it meant to thee, the holy one,
to bear away my sin.”
Katherine A.M. Kelly.

“We never move on from the cross, only into a more profound understanding of the cross.” David Prior.

I found these quotes in CJ’s The Cross Centered Life.
