Being from South Carolina as I am, two of my favorite foods–and staples of my childhood–are fried chicken and fried okra. I’ve heard that enterprising cooks have taken to creating deep-fried desserts by smothering Twinkies or Snickers or such with a big dose of batter, and frying it up in oil.
Theologian Russ Moore recently highlighted a Memphis news story reporting that the latest confectionary concoction is deep-fried Coke. Part funnel cake, part carbonated soda, it’s hard for me to guess how this is going to catch on in a diet-crazed society. Funny, either way.
Does this appeal to you? What’s the strangest dessert you’ve tried?

Actually that sounds pretty good. Can’t have soda during soccer season though..
Oreos with peanut butter are pretty good…
i think that sounds disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but mayB i should try ur idea Colin!:)
how can soda be made into a cake
i don’t quite get the soda/cake thing either. but i do know that peanut butter on oreos is great.
however, the absolutely best taste-sensation i’ve ever had was vanilla ice cream and barbeque chicken. mmmmmmm! that was fabulous!
Colin, I must agree, I wouldn’t mind trying that… Peanut-butter and Oreos is good… and I to fell victim to the indescribable taste sensation of Vanilla Ice-Cream and Barbecue Chicken…
-good times…
The strangest thing I’ve ever had was peanut-butter icing on graham crackers, and that is not too strange. Ice-cream with BBQ chicken?!? Gross! Maybe I should try that sometime.
you should. before you take the first bite your mind and stomach scream at you to stop before it’s too late. after that first bite enters your mouth the overwhelming sensation of deliciousness contradicts your previous reaction so strongly that it completely confuses your senses.
it’s an experience not to be missed
