Burritofication In Progress

November 28, 2006 3:13 pm

Driving through a shopping center in Burke today, I saw a sign that got my attention:

Recognize the font? That’s Chipotle, people! Good food is on the way. It’s a good thing, too, because Burke is food-challenged. This particular shopping center possesses a Taco Bell, a Subway, and a Starbucks, all of which score points. But working against these fine eating establishments is Friendly’s. Whatever points get scored by having a Starbucks are immediately negated by having a Friendly’s.

But happy thoughts, friends: Chippies is on the way. You-know-who will be there on opening day!

We are politely, respectfully outraged… You\’ve obviously never partaken of Friendly\’s ice cream. And their clam chowder is better than anything else you\’ll find in the area, too (in the HUMBLE opinion of a clam chowder fanatic)! Not to EVEN mention their clam strips. What have you exactly had there anyhoo? So yeah.

Friendly’s ice cream is good….I just wish they would keep the nasty ingredient of hair out of it…..

Metzger ladies, I\’m all for Friendly\’s ice cream, especially that crazy-good peanut butter sauce. It\’s the greasy seats, sticky carpet, and not-so-friendly service I have a hard time with. And the hair in the food, as Rachie suggests above.

However, I too am a clam chowder nut. Any other good sources for chowda in the area? Help a brother out…

What’s a little hair in a happening bowl of ice cream anyway? >:)

If you consider “the area” to be New England, then there’s a great little place on Plum Island off Newburyport, MA where they catch their own clams. Otherwise, can’t think of any better clam chowder around here than Friendly’s, unless you feel like paying for McCormick & Schmick’s. The fresher the clams, the better the chowder, and nothing is fresh around here, unfortunately.

I’ve never been to McCormick and Schmick’s, but Mr. Schmick is my dad’s mom’s (Betty Schmick Shirey’s) cousin/uncle/ something or other!
