So how was it? Did you guys enjoy singing at the retirement homes? Is this something you would like to do again next year?

it was great. It really seemed like they (the old folks) enjoyed it and I did too. I definately think y’all should do it again…too bad I won’t be there. It was much more rewarding to go and serve others than it would have been to have a party for ourselves.

It was so much fun! I just wish we had more time to talk to the people. So maybe asking for more time.

We should defiantly do it again, maybe in the summer. We could go sing the “Star Spangled Banner”!!!!:)

Great job organizing it Joseph! Thanks for all your hard work!

That was awesome. The people looked so appreciative of the fact that we wanted to talk to them. One lady I talked to said that we were different from the other groups, because “you look like you want to be here, not like you have to be here”. She did say that our singing needed some work… But that it’s “the thought that counts.” We should definitely do it again.

Sometime this Spring?

I think we should do this again next year! I’m also game for going on another day aside from Christmas. One elderly lady I talked to had only one daughter, and she lived in Russia. So she has no one that comes to talk to her.
One of the best moments during the whole thing, was when my dad introduced me to a lady, and the lady said to me “I don’t know who that man is, but he has been so nice and loving to me.”

And thank you Joseph for all work!

Steve,

Three observations:

1. The event was well planned and organized. Kudos to our SLC member Joseph Rossell for his excellent handling of this event. Great job! His dad also did a great MC job at the home. He is a schmoozer!

2. I woefully underestimate the work of God in our youth. To see them smiling, interacting, and laughing with these older folks was to see 1 Tim. 5: 2- “treat older women like mothers”, lived out right before my eyes. I was so glad to see how they didn’t just “put up” with it, but they really got “into” it. I was SO PROUD when one of the residents said to me, “This group is by far the best group we’ve had here.” When I asked why, she said, “because they have all been so kind to us and interacted with us.”
Not only did the kids do a great job interacting with the residents, but they also served the workers by going to people’s rooms and helping them out to the lobby area where the concert was to take place. All the youth were so gentle and affectionate and seemed so eager to help in any way they could. I was blessed observing God’s work in their lives on display.

3. Finally, hearing the the kids eagerly share the stories and facts they’d learned about the people they met was also fun. They all seemed to gain a solid dose of “real life” learning. I hope we make plans to return. We could learn much from these folks.

That was lots of fun and I think it really blessed all the old people! I would love to do it again sometime.

Thanks Joseph for everything!

I am so sad I had to miss it! It sounds like it was great. I wish I could have come…

To reiterate what Mr. Uribe said, I was very thankful for how everyone jumped in and really served the folks at the homes. I was acutely aware of God’s grace on us during the whole time. Really, I did a very small part in what happened Saturday. The real story of the day was how God worked through all of us and ministered to the elderly we interacte with. Praise God for his mercy!

I thought it was great! I really enjoyed it and was so glad that we got the chance to talk to the people there before and after. I’m still feeling really excited about it, even though it’s been a couple of days.
At first it was a little awkward talking to them (because I’m shy) but as I did, I forgot about being shy and just enjoyed it. It helped as I talked to remember that they were kids once too and it was great to hear some memories from when they were my age!
I really hope we do it again, maybe some other time of year.

Thanks Joseph for working on this!

maybe Easter time would be a good time to go back…

It was great going to those homes. It was fun seeing all their faces light up. The only thing is that I wish we had more time to talk with them. All together, it was an awesome experience.
Thank you Joseph!

ditto to what everyone else has said - i loved it and would so enjoy going again sometime (before next Christmas!).

one observation would be maybe bringing a few other younger kids next time. mrs. malone brought her two little guys, josh & gabe, and it seemed the old people really liked seeing and meeting them. of course, we wouldn’t want to bring too many, or too little, kiddos, just to make sure things stay on the “calm & controlled” side…

(as i write this, one of my little sisters is singing at the top of her lungs in the bathroom… lol :))

Just a thought…a small group could go at easter break while the “elderly of five15″ are in Mexico…and just chat with them again…they seemed to enjoy that…and maybe we could sing a few songs about the resurrection or something. :D

@ Sara, Great idea! I’m actually not going to be able to go to Mexico this year, so maybe I could work on something.

I was blessed that I could share with the gentleman I spoke with that his sins could be forgiven in Christ. He cried. I have been praying for him since our visit.
