Battle Of The Titans

I have been surprised at the amount of discussion a recent post generated on the topic of donuts. Even more surprised at the donut priorities some of you have. This raises some of the great questions of our day:

  • Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts?
  • Glazed or jelly-filled?
  • Powdered or sprinkles?
  • Are donut holes really donuts?

Personally, I think the perfect donut is a hot, fresh, chocolate glazed from Krispy Kreme. I’m not sure that Cinnamon Apple should even qualify as a legitimate donut flavor.

What about you guys? What is your fave?

1. I grew up eating dunkin donuts…and I still love them alot…but no one beats krispy kreme.
2. DEFINITELY GLAZED! I really really reallllllly don’t like jelly filled donuts. If, however, it was the last donut left on the tray…I might eat it (but I would probably eat the donuts part and try to avoid the jelly)
3. Sprinkles all the way! no question here. Powdered is only good if there’s nothing else left.
4. Yes. And you can eat billions of them. :D

What donut out there could compare with Krispy Kreme’s chocolate white creme-filled?

DanielB wrote a comment on January 11, 2008

1. Krispy Kreme is teh awesomeness.

2. Depends on the filling, but I probably love glazed more. Especially if it’s hot. :D

3. I dunno. Both are sweet and make you fat. I personally don’t like one over the other. XP

4. Yeah. Do you know how many you can stuff in your mouth in one go?! 8D

My personal favorite is a hot-enough-to-melt-in-your-mouth Krispy Kream glazed donut. My mouth waters at the thought of them. I could eat them without end, but the last time I had more than one my stomach felt sick.
The other kind I love is a plain donut with chocolate frosting on top.

1. Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts? - Krispy Kream
2.Glazed or jelly-filled? - Glazed
3.Powdered or sprinkles? - Powdered
4.Are donut holes really donuts? - They shouldn’t be, but I guess they are.

DO-NUTS!!!!!!!!
First of all, neither Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts are the best. The dark horse of donuts are the Shoppers Colossal Donuts (these donuts eat other donuts for breakfast). Second, chocolate glazed. Third, sprinkles. Lastly: donut holes do NOT qualify as donuts so, yeah.

Has anyone ever tried Tim Horton’s in Canada? I hear that they’re amazing, but I’ve never had one myself.

1. I have to say, I don’t really remember going to either Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts, so I have no clue which is superior.
2. To the question “Glazed or jelly-filled?”, again, I have no clue. I guess it all depends on what the flavors are.
3. Sprinkles, definetly! (When you bite into a powdered donut, the powder seems to fall off the donut and into your lap and you’re left with an unpowdered donut; or at least that’s what seems to happen to me.)
4. Donut holes are donuts because the cooking method is the same, I think.
5. And, YES! Cinamon-Apple-Filled donuts are DEFINETLY donuts! And, I’m sorry to say Steve, I think they would beat a hot, fresh, chocolate glazed donut from Krispy Kreme, but that’s just my opinion and I’ve never had a hot, fresh, chocolate glazed donut from Krispy Kreme, so I’ll leave the decision making up to the experts. I still have to admit, it does sound pretty nice.

1. —
Krispy Kreme- donuts with style and r classix…
Dunkin Donuts- Is good cause u can get a coffee or w/e with it…
2. Glazed def, I mean who wants a bleeding donut anyway with jelly???
3. Sprinkles pwn the powdered…
4. Yes they are! Rn’t they called DONUT holes for a reason????

And none beat the Devil’s food all chocolate ones!i!

mo wrote a comment on January 11, 2008

haha, bleeding donuts. funny.

ok, the most recent amazing donut i had was krispy kreme, caramel glazed, caramel filled sprinkled with nuts. i don’t remember what kind of nuts. i ate it in the dark. it was a mess. it was amazing.

yet, i agree with caroline. Shoppers Colossal Donuts rule the donut world. all other donuts must pay homage to royal family of pastry confections if they want to remain on the menu. every donut is constantly on the verge of being forced into oblivion by those o-so-awesome rulers of the donut kingdom. judge by this, i don’t believe i’ve had one since i was … say seven. and i still remember every bite.
beware, krispy kreme and dunkin donuts, your positions are not so secure as they seem.

Well shoppers donuts rule because they’re a tonnn bigger than KK’s. And they’re cheaper.

1. There isn’t even a comparison. Krispy Kreme is far superior.
2. Glazed. Bad memories of ruined clothes from jelly when I was little and not so coordinated.
3. Powdered.
4. I’m not even going to get into this battle…

Molly and Carolinia have a point, Shoppers is sneaking into the donut scene. But will prolly never, ever, ever, ever, ever, overtake Krispy Kreme.

How can you not like cinnamon apple-filled? It is, next to the spork and electricity, one of the greatest inventions by man.

ever, ever.

steve wrote a comment on January 11, 2008

You people are deluded. Shoppers got nothin. A big donut isn’t necessarily a good donut.

There’s nothing like the Krispies.

Jonny wrote a comment on January 11, 2008

I agree Steve, there is nothing like a Krispie, but you have to admire the spunk that the Shoppers donuts have shown… They were way outmatched, and now have climbed past Dunkin Donuts.

Sara wrote a comment on January 11, 2008

Cinnamon apple is good once in a while. I figure every donut should have choco and sprinkles on top…and cinnamon apple, choco, and sprinkles would not make a very yummy donut. :D

Ah, but Steve….a donut that’s big, good, and cheap is just amazing! And if you go early in the morning you can get them hot…yumm.
But in the long run… I’d have to say KK wins… they’re amazing smothered in glaze and choco… (yay! fatty butter)….yummmmmmy. :]

Sara wrote a comment on January 11, 2008

ah wait…gotta correct myself…it’s not fatty BUTTER…it’s fatty GREASE. Whoopsie daisy. Got ahead of my self there…

Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts? - I like both, but I’d probably lean towards Dunkin Donuts more. I’d say they’re the best.

Glazed or jelly-filled? - Both.

Powdered or sprinkles? - Both.

Are donut holes really donuts? - As a donut hole is apart of a donut, I’d say yes, it qualifies.

There :-)

note on krispy kreme:
if you’re looking for something satisfying early in the morning, krispy kreme doesn’t cut it. at least in my opinion, kk is too light. good on the tastebuds, not enough substance to satisfy.
shoppers has the tastebud side down pretty good and definitely owns in the substance arena.

My dad brought us home donuts a few days ago and I wrote this poem because I enjoyed them so much. When I saw this post, and the debate on Shoppers donuts, I had to share it:

I promised to stick with my diet today,
But that promise was not going to stay.
I got down the stairs and what did I see?
Chocolate donuts waiting for me!
The look, the smell, the temptation was too great -
Next thing I knew I had picked up a plate.
I ate the donut, savoring every last bite,
I was glad I did – it filled me with delight!
I threw my diet out the window, but couldn’t have welcomed a better guest
Because truly, chocolate donuts are the best!!!

And yes, this poem was written while eating my favorite kind of Shoppers donuts.

1. i go with mo and caroline shoppers is amazing though i haven’t had one in a long time. we used to get one every time we went shopping there and then when we got to the deli the lady that always helped us gave us gumyworms.
2. I’d say glazedi can’t stand jelly (no affiance to peps how like them).
3. sprinkled all the way, the powder make you cough and then you can’t enjoy your donut.
4. donut holes can never ever be donuts i mean come on sure they come from the same dough but calling them donuts would be like calling chocolate chip cookies chocolate chips!(ok that was lame but you get the point right)

Krispy Kreme are the best. Period. I like custard filled. However, my absolute favorite donut is not from Krispy Kreme. I haven’t found them anywhere around here, but I love long johns.

By the way… Tim Horton’s is also located in Michigan (yeah, we got everything Canada got). It is obviously overrated. My whole family can tell you that. It isn’t that good. Trust me.
