Ever since we chose five15 as the name for our youth ministry (thank you, Aaron!), we’ve had a logo to represent this name. In fact, we have changed the logo each year (thank you, Andrew, Mitch, and Peter!), creating a new look for tshirts, decorations, etc.

I really like the logo we have now, but the Student Leadership Council tells me there is more than enough artistic talent in five15 to create a new logo. So, let me see what you’ve got. Here is the idea behind the logo contest:

• All submissions are due in to me by Friday, May 30. Earlier is better, but that gives you a month to come up with something.
• The Student Leadership Council will assist me in selecting a logo.
• There is an iPod Shuffle in it for the winner.

I have a simple criteria for what I look for in a logo:

• It has to look good. (I realize that is open to interpretation, but I know it when I see it.
• Abstract is better than representative. “He died that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him” is pretty hard to symbolize graphically.
• I don’t like logos that take existing product logos and ‘Christianize’ them. Remember those “God’s Gym” tshirts that were big a few years back. No, please.
• It needs to actually include “five15” in it somewhere. Please note the spelling and punctuation carefully.

I may add to this list if I think of anything else, so check back. But in the meantime, let’s get to work. If you want me to look at a prototype of your design before 5/30, of course I would love to. Pass it on. It’s only going to help us if we can refine your work along the way.
