five15 Announcements

December 1, 2007 7:44 pm

In case you missed it, here are the announcements from the five15 BIG MEETING:

  1. CHRISTMAS PARTY. A quick reminder of the announcement I’ve already made. Registration is now closed.
  2. five15Wear. Give a hoodie, long-sleeve T, short-sleeve T, sweatband, or beanie cap for Christmas. Or buy one with the money you get for Christmas. Pick up a catalog at the Welcome Center. Turn it in by 12/31 with your payment and you’ll get your order in January. And you should know that we don’t make any profit on this: everything is at cost.
  3. ROCKET-08. Our first ever Middle School Retreat. For all 7th and 8th graders and their parents. A one-day getaway on January 12 from 9am-4pm. $15 gets your breakfast, lunch, a tshirt, and your fair share of snacks and prizes. Sign up at the table in the lobby through Sunday, December 16.

Christmas Party Plans

November 21, 2007 10:59 am

cookies.jpgIf you were at the last five15 BIG MEETING, you heard me announce that we are doing our five15 Christmas Party differently this year. Rather than putting on a big party that serves ourselves, we going to “live not for ourselves but for Christ” by serving others.

This year, we’ll be meeting here at the church building at 12:30pm on Saturday, December 15 and heading out to several local retirement homes to sing Christmas Carols and spend time talking to the residents there. I think this is such a great opportunity to demonstrate the difference the gospel makes, by devoting part of our Saturday to serving this often-neglected, seldom-appreciated segment of our community.

We’re asking everyone to register for this event. Here’s something new: you can easily do it online!

Registration is now closed.

Fall Clean On Saturday!

November 15, 2007 7:04 pm

Don’t forget: the Fall Clean fundraiser for Mx08 is THIS SATURDAY! Key things to remember:

  • Be at the building before 8:30am! We want to start on time so we can finish on time!
  • Dress appropriately: something you can get dirty, and something that you’ll be comfortable in when the temperature only gets up to 48º.
  • Bring a lunch! Brownbag it, or bring some money for Mickey D’s.
  • Bring water!  It’s not hot but it is dry, and you can dehydrate even in the cold.
  • Don’t forget to thank Mr. Peiffer personally when you see him for arranging this for us!

October 30, 2007 8:57 am

Don’t forget the Harvest Carnival tomorrow night!  Officially, the event runs 6-9, but I know that many of you are scheduled to serve both earlier and later than that!  THANKS to all of you who signed up to serve: I know it is going to be a ton of fun because of your hard work and sacrifice!

And it’s not too late to invite your neighbors!  See you tomorrow night!

five15 Announcements

October 7, 2007 6:14 pm

In case you missed it, here are the announcements from the five15 BIG MEETING:

HARVEST CARNIVAL

  • We need your help! The Harvest Carnival is an event that we put on for the younger kids.
  • We’ve got lots to do, so please sign up to serve. Look for the table in the lobby on Sunday morning.

BOWLING

  • We’re going bowling Sunday afternoon (October 14) at the Bowl America bowling alley at Fairfax Circle.
  • Plan on grabbing a quick lunch and meet there at 1pm.
  • $10 gets you shoe rental and two games.
  • Yes, there is a Redskins game that day, and no, I don’t know if it will be on or not.

WHAT’S ALLOWED ON five15 NIGHTS

  • Inside, the basement auditorium and the bathroom are fair game. The rest of the building is closed.
  • Before and after meetings, you are welcome to go outside.
  • Stay where you can be seen from basement auditorium doors.
  • The woods are off limits.
  • The upper parking lot is off limits.
  • PARENTS: I need your help. Please know where your kids are, what they are doing, and who they are with.
  • We will be monitoring the building and grounds. Teens, if we find you somewhere you’re not supposed to be, we’ll need to have a chat with you and your parents together.
  • Why am I making such a big deal about this? Not much good happens in the dark. This is for your safety.
  • Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

five15 News Flash

September 19, 2007 5:39 pm

Hey five15,
I have great news. We have our first five15 meeting of the year THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, 9/22.

Originally this meeting was scheduled as a not-so-big meeting, intended for high school students at their parents. Because RYE was high school only, I want to change this meeting to be a BIG MEETING, meaning high school AND middle school students (and their parents) are invited.

High school students, we will be splitting up into our discussion groups. Dust off your notes from the five15 Retreat and bring them if you can.

Our schedule has not changed from last year:

  • 5:15pm Pizza & Ping Pong. Bring a few books bucks for the eats. Soccer, volleyball, ping-pong, foosball are all going on. Tons of fun.
  • 6:30pm Meeting starts. Don’t be late.

Bring a friend and bring your Bible! See you Saturday night.
