A Minor Setback

April 13, 2006 12:40 pm

Our tile crew was dissappointed yesterday to find tiles popping loose out in the middle of the room.  None of us really know enough about tiling to know quite what was going on. But we're pressing on, re-laying the tiles.

Biblical Manhood & Womanhood

12:28 pm

The difference between boys and girls, according to Peter Gagnon:

“Young ladies sing like a heavenly choir and paint the walls and ceilings.  Young men tell dumb jokes and paint each other.”

(He's not kidding.)

Wednesday Devotions

Mx Aaron Devotions.JPG

Aaron Peiffer led devotions for us last night from Exodus 31:1-5:

"The Lord said to Moses, 'See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft.'"

Aaron helped us understand that God had commanded the Israelites to build the tabernacle in the desert, a task that their slavery in Egypt left them distinctly unprepared to do.  They were unable, in their own strength and wisdom, to obey God's command.  But God gave them the abilites to fulfill his commands.  Aaron helped us see how we are no different than the Israelites, but like the Israelites, God has given us grace to obey him.  Far more powerfully, in fact, because of the Jesus's death on the Cross.

Eats

12:10 pm

We owe Christine Helms big time.  She is in charge of the kitchen, so she is rising an hour or more before anyone else to prepare breakfast and the rest of the food for the day.  In addition, she's cooking dinner for the ranch kids each evening while the ranch staff are in Mark's class.  The end result: we're all eating really well!

Wednesday Worship

12:05 pm

We spent time this morning (as we do every mornin) pointing out evidences of grace that we've seen in one another.  These are some of the most encouraging times we experience here.  Today, Pete Gagnon led us in singing songs of worship to our Savior, in English and in Spanish.

Pintando

With all the sand blowing around, the need for painting is almost endless.  I love how Dean has selected such bright colors for the ranch.  In an area where almost all the buildings are the color of sand and dirt, the ranch stands out for it’s beauty and brightness.  I think it’s an example of how the kingdom of God works: through Christ, God is redeeming a broken world, putting his grace and kindness on full display.

One of the biggest responsibilities we've been entrusted with while here is to take care of the kids while Dean's staff and teachers are in class with Mark and Dave.
