Next Tuesday (September 9), we’re going to have an informational meeting for anyone interested in being involved with Alpha on campus. We’re going to meet at 6:00 in the JC foodcourt and then find a place to talk (maybe third floor?). The topics for discussion will be: meeting place, dates and times, and administrative support. IFC Picnic Postponed

Due to the consistent rain, we will not be having the IFC picnic this evening. We have however reserved the park and rescheduled the event for next Friday, September 5th.

WHERE: Providence Park, Fairfax

WHEN: 4:30pm

We rescheduled for next Friday because we realize that it is important to engage the international students as soon as possible at the beginning of the year, as they are making decisions about what they will be involved in for the year.

You were unable to serve tonight, but find that you now can because of the schedule change - or -

Labor Day Picnic - This Sunday

There will be a church-wide picnic this Sunday, August 31, from 12:15-3:15 p.m. Please bring your own lunch, dessert, lawn chairs, and blankets. The church picnic is a good opportunity to hang out with old friends and a chance to make new friends. I’d also encourage you to consider inviting a friend to church and the picnic.

Sunday School Class

Lou and I will be holding an eight week Sunday School class on Sundays, September 21 – November 9, at 8:30 a.m. During the class we will be going through the book Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands, which is available in the bookstore for $13. If you would like to attend, please sign up at the Welcome Center or online. The material covered in this book is outstanding, and the class will be geared toward practical application in our daily lives. Hope you can make it. VH

New Members Class

The fall session of our New Members class begins on Sunday, September 14. This 11-week class is for anyone wanting to explore our doctrine and church practices or become a member of the church. The classes start at 8:30 a.m. Childcare is provided, and breakfast will be served. Please sign up for the class at the Welcome Center or online at www.sovgracefairfax.org/event-registration by September 7.

“Acts” the Musical

On August 29-31, the Singles Ministry at Covenant Life will be performing the original musical ‘Acts’ which is based on the story of the early church in book of Acts. This play is designed to be an introduction to the gospel for those who attend and it provides a good opportunity to invite friends and neighbors. Specific show times are below, and tickets are available on the Covenant Life website at http://www.covlife.org/static/acts . (Tickets will also be sold at the door before each performance). The performance times are: Friday, Aug 29 at 7:30pm, Saturday, Aug 30 at 7:30pm, and Sunday, Aug 31 at 4:00pm. VH

Membership Commitment

Quick Reminder: If you’re a member of the church, we’d like to get your signed copy of the Membership Commitment turned in by the end of August. Extra copies are available at the Welcome Center and there will be copies on the stage after the meeting. I know that some of you still have questions about the document so I’d like to encourage you to please meet with one of the pastors either after the Sunday meeting or set up a time to come in and see us. We consider it a blessing and a privilege to serve the Lord with you.

We’ve decided to use the Alpha Course material for our outreach on campus and the topics to be covered are:

Introduction - Christianity: Boring, Untrue or Irrelevant?
Who is Jesus?
Why did Jesus die?
How can I be sure of my faith?
Why and how do I pray?
Why and how should I read the Bible?
How does God guide us?
What about suffering and evil?
Who is the Holy Spirit?
What is the Gospel?
What about the church?
